Greedy Sweet Seller Story

Hungry Bird Story

In the village of Dinpur, there was a confectioner named Sohan. He was known for making excellent and delicious sweets, and his shop was famous throughout the village. The entire village used to buy sweets from his shop. Sohan and his wife collaborated to make sweets in pure desi ghee, resulting in tasty and high-quality confections. Every evening, all his sweets would be sold out, and he would make a good profit.

As his income increased with the success of his sweets, Sohan became greedy for more money. Due to this greed, he devised a plan. He went to the city and brought back a piece of magnet. He placed this magnet under the scale of his weighing machine.

With this new setup, when a customer bought sweets, the weight appeared to be more than it actually was, leading to increased profits for Sohan. He shared this cunning technique with his wife, but she did not approve of his dishonesty. She tried to convince Sohan not to deceive the customers, but he paid no heed to her advice.

Every day, Sohan continued to cheat his customers using the magnet under the scale. This increased his profits many times over, and he was pleased with himself.

One day, a new boy named Ravi came to Sohan’s shop. He bought two kilograms of jalebi. As Sohan used his trick to weigh the jalebi, he made extra profit. Sohan shared his clever technique with Ravi, but Ravi did not like Sohan’s dishonesty. He advised Sohan not to deceive his customers, but Sohan ignored Ravi’s words.

Ravi bought jalebi from another shop and asked the confectioner there to weigh it. When the jalebi was weighed, it turned out to be less than two kilograms. Now, Ravi was suspicious, and he bought a weighing scale himself. He placed it near Sohan’s shop and invited all the villagers to witness a magic trick.

As people gathered, Ravi demonstrated how Sohan’s sweets, when weighed on his scale, were significantly lighter. The villagers were astonished. Seeing this, Sohan became angry and argued with Ravi. However, Ravi was determined to expose Sohan’s deceitful practices.

Witnessing the unfair business practices, the villagers became furious. They collectively reprimanded Sohan for his dishonesty. Sohan, facing the villagers’ wrath, realized the consequences of his actions. He apologized to the villagers and promised not to engage in such deceitful practices in the future.

The entire village was upset with Sohan’s dishonesty, and his shop saw a significant decline in customers. Sohan, regretful and left with nothing but remorse, had lost the trust of the entire village.

Lesson from the story: One should never succumb to greed. Honesty and integrity are essential for maintaining one’s reputation. While deceit may bring short-term gains, it inevitably leads to loss of respect and self-esteem.
